The larger battery is one of the main reasons customers choose Apple’s iPhone Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max can play video for up to 29 hours. This could be improved with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple’s high-end iPhone will get a battery boost, but it won’t be by increasing the size of the battery. It’ll remain the same as the 15 Pro Max. Kuo claims that Apple increased the energy densities, or how much power it can store. This has resulted in the battery lasting a longer time. Kuo does not provide any details on how much battery life will increase.
The battery will run hotter due to the higher energy density. Apple will use an “stainless-steel battery case” for the first time to provide a thermal solution. The case is also designed to protect the iPhone and battery.
Kuo says that Apple will implement this battery in its iPhones by 2025 if it works well.
Kuo’s reports follow mock-ups that showed the iPhone 16 Pro Max to be larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Kuo is usually accurate, but he has made a few mistakes. If Kuo is right (which he is often), the implementation of the new steel case inside the battery may explain the increase in size.
